For the past several years, President Obama has struggled to provide affordable healthcare for his less affluent fellow citizens. His programme, known as Obama Care, has come into operation and is reported to have helped 30 million people to get the medical attention they need. This modest progress has been made in the teeth of opposition from the health insurance industry. It is shocking to an Englishman, who has enjoyed free health care for almost 70 years, to learn that in the world's richest country medical care can be denied to a person who does not have private health insurance.
