First You See a Beautiful Dance. Then You Realize It’s a Story About Abuse

We were hooked from the very start of the music video for Elliott Moss’s new single “Without the Lights.” The dancers—Phillip Chbeeb and Erica Klein—are mesmerizingly graceful, which makes it easy to miss the first few hints that Moss is telling the story of a woman in an abusive relationship. As the video stretches on, Klein's movements perfectly illustrate the feeling of being trapped and confused.

The sad thing is this narrative is eerily relatable for so many people. One in three women and one in four men experience some type of intimate partner violence in their lifetime. The stats are startling, and even more reason to champion artists like Moss, who use their talents to talk about tough topics.
