The Real Reason Airplane Food Tastes So Bad

Airplane food gets a bad rap (whatever you do, don't order the fish!), but it's partly your fault the meals are less than five star. As this video from SciShow explains, humidity, air pressure, smell, and even sound can all impact the way food tastes to you.

The double whammy of dry air and low pressure gives most people dry mouth and makes it harder to taste and smell flavors. But all hope isn't lost: While sweet and salty foods taste blander when you're flying, scientists have found that some flavors, like tomato, actually get bolder in the air. So now you have an excuse to order a Bloody Mary on your next flight.
