These days you can get avocados and melons all year round (even when it's snowing outside!), but that doesn’t mean they taste great.
Vox published a set of super-helpful graphics (check 'em out below) that show what to look for to find the best fruits and veggies. The secret? Use all five senses. Yes, even sound. Artichokes, for example, squeak when they're fresh. And don't worry about finding perfectly shaped produce: A vibrant color, smaller size, and intact stem are better indicators of flavorful fruits and veggies.
Another pro tip: Saturday is the best day for shopping. Stores know this is a popular day to buy groceries, so they make sure lots of fresh produce is available.
