A vitrectomy is a surgical procedure that a patient undergoes to remove all or a portion of the vitreous humour from the eye. This may sound complicated, but it's not. Vitreous humour is like jelly that fills up the eye between the lens and the retina. Everyone has this from the moment they are born. Most of the time, there are no problems, but there can be problems that are a result of something wrong in the vitreous humour.
