Hi Greatist readers,
Happy Monday! I’m back for the month of November to talk about self-care, which is a huge practice for me. (If you missed my series on work boundaries last month, click here.)
Self-care is vital for our well-being, which is why I highly recommend it to all my clients as a therapist. And there are six dimensions of self-care to get to know. Stick with me, every Monday this month, to learn all about them.
Dimension #1: Emotional self-care
As we await election results, tending to your emotional well-being is critical for your mental health. My first question to you is: How are you feeling? Start this practice by getting in tune with your emotions and naming them. BTW, “good” and “OK” are not feelings! 😉
Our emotions are messengers, and when we learn to develop a healthy relationship with them, we can get a better understanding of how to tend to our emotional needs.
So here are three journaling questions I’d like you to commit to daily this week to tend to your emotional health:
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how am I feeling? (Bonus: Name the feeling using this emotional wheel.)
- Who can I ask for help?
- What do I need to feel supported?
I’ll be checking back in with you next week to see what you discovered and cover the next dimension: physical self-care. See you next week!
With love,
Minaa B.
